Peter Lougheed / Banff Natinal Park
Visited Canada during the summer 2017 during their 150 year celebration! I arrived in Calgary and after a couple of days in Calgary drove out to HI Kananaskis hostel just north of Peter Lougheed Provincial Park. This hostel was my base for my visits in Peter Loghheed Provincial Park and Banff National Park.
HI Kananaskis is affordable wilderness hostel; I stayed here for four nights. I visited many HI hostels during my visit in Canada. I do recommend booking early particularly in Banff and Jasper National Parks maybe more than several month ahead of your visit. A one year membership will save 10% on the room price!
The first day at HI Kananaskis Hostel I drove south on road 40 to Peter Lougheed Provincial Park. I visited in the middle of June and it was a very cold time about five degrees Celsius and a strong wind.
There are other ways to paddle the lakes than kayaking but it seems to be more time-consuming.
I was on my way to Lake Louise on the National road number 1 just north of Banff when a Bear turned up on the other side of the motor way!
In just a few minutes it was people everywhere trying to spot the two bears. Actually the high way was closed for several minutes due to traffic jam all the drivers were busy spotting the bears.
Moraine Lake was the first lake of the four lakes I did see around Lake Louise. I followed the path to the right of the lake.
In the middle of June there was snow all the way down to the lake. A few days before there were ice on the Moraine Lake.
I have walked for some time on the path around the lake and early morning clouds are replaced with some morning sun!
